Our Mission

To support a free student press by educating communities about the impact of Hazelwood v. Kuhlmeier

Although the Hazelwood case was a landmark SCOTUS decision, its intricacies are either unknown or misinterpreted by educators and administrators nationwide. Harmful effects abound, resulting in the erosion of student journalists’ Constitutional rights. We believe that knowledge is power: when one understands the origin, intent, and weaknesses of the Hazelwood decision, it will fortify student press rights and ultimately lead to a more educated citizenry.

Our Vision

To elevate student voices as they become tomorrow’s thought leaders and problem-solvers

Critical thinking is at the heart of scholastic journalism. When student journalists practice their craft without arbitrary restraint, they learn and grow. Anything less than that is just a bad civics lesson. In an increasingly complicated world, we need to arm students with the ability to tackle those complexities, which cannot be done effectively without letting them ask difficult questions or explore relevant issues. This is the way forward.
